OKX Singapore review
A Singapore review of OKX SG Pte. Ltd. — the MAS Major Payment Institution with a more advanced retail book, PayNow and FAST rails, and the MAS restrictions that keep leverage off the licensed retail product.

OKX is the platform people open when they already know what a depth chart is. In Singapore that habit has to live inside a narrower product than the global brand advertises. OKX SG Pte. Ltd. is a Major Payment Institution (MPI) for Digital Payment Token (DPT) service. The Monetary Authority of Singapore’s retail rules then strip out the credit, the leverage and the perpetual futures that made the global app famous.
This review is a reading of the licensed Singapore book as of 5 October 2026. It is not a recommendation to trade, and it is not a tour of OKX’s overseas derivatives.
The entity, and the one next to it
Search the Financial Institutions Directory for OKX SG PTE. LTD. You should see Payments, Major Payment Institution, Digital Payment Token Service, a Marina Boulevard address, +65 6932 2834 and the website okx.com/en-sg. If you landed on a generic okx.com host that never names the Pte. Ltd., you are not on the Singapore product.
OKX publishes a separate disclosure for Singapore users. It says the MAS-required risk and safeguarding wording applies to users of OKX Singapore, not to users of other OKX entities, and it names OKX Financial Pte. Ltd. as the affiliate that offers payment-token derivatives and structured products. OKX Financial, on the firm’s own telling, is not licensed, approved or regulated by MAS for those products and does not provide DPT service under the Payment Services Act.
That paragraph is the whole review for anyone who came here looking for retail leverage. The licensed book is spot and custody. The flashy book is a different company. Mixing them in one app icon is a design choice OKX made; it is not MAS’s design. The licence-check method exists specifically for this kind of cousin-entity problem.
The advanced book, used as a spot venue
On the Singapore spot product you get a more complete retail interface than most local apps: depth, multiple order types, a web terminal as well as a phone, and a fee schedule that behaves like an exchange rather than a bundled quote. If you are comparing maker-taker rates across the MAS-licensed retail shortlist, OKX SG will often look cheap, especially once 30-day volume moves you off the starter tier.
Cheap is only true on pairs the Singapore entity actually lists. The global catalogue is not the test. Open the signed-in en-sg account and read the pair list there. Bitcoin, ether and the large liquid tokens are the centre of gravity. If your trade is an illiquid ticker that only exists on an overseas book, that is a different — and usually unlicensed — decision.
OKX Pay and on-platform transfer features have been marketed alongside the exchange. Treat anything that moves value to another person as a payments product with name, travel-rule and destination-wallet checks. It is not a casual PayNow substitute.
A simple habit keeps this platform honest: place the same S$1,000 limit buy you would place on Independent Reserve, write down the all-in SGD cost, and ignore every banner that is not about that fill.
What MAS does not want on a retail DPT book
The MAS guidelines on consumer-protection safeguards for DPT service providers are explicit enough to quote in spirit. A DPT service provider should not, for a retail customer:
- provide a credit facility or a loan of tokens to fund or hold DPTs;
- enter into a leveraged DPT transaction, or help the customer into one with someone else;
- enter into DPT derivatives (including contracts for difference and futures), or help the customer into them;
- accept a credit card or charge card issued in Singapore under the Banking Act as payment for the DPT service.
Parliament has heard the same policy in plain language: using credit or leverage magnifies losses, and MAS has prohibited DPT service providers from providing credit or leverage to all retail customers for cryptocurrency purchases, including restrictions on locally issued credit cards.
That is why a responsible OKX SG review does not publish a “how to open a 5x long” section. If the app still shows a derivatives pane, the firm’s own disclosure points at OKX Financial, which is unregulated for that activity. Recourse, complaints and safeguarding look different once you leave the MPI. If you cannot explain that difference, stay on spot.
Accredited-investor or institutional channels, where they exist, are a separate onboarding with a separate test. Do not self-certify your way around a retail restriction.
SGD rails via DBS
OKX Singapore’s local-rails announcement is the practical reason to consider the MPI at all. The firm launched instant SGD deposits and withdrawals facilitated by DBS, and described PayNow deposits and FAST withdrawals as free of OKX charges. Singpass onboarding is part of the same local build.
| Rail | Direction | What OKX has said | What you should still do |
|---|---|---|---|
| PayNow | Deposit | Instant, advertised free | Match the UEN/QR in the en-sg app; own-name bank only |
| FAST | Deposit | Instant, advertised free | Use the beneficiary details on screen, not a forum post |
| FAST | Withdrawal | Advertised free via DBS | Confirm the in-app fee on the day; first withdrawal may be reviewed |
| Card | Buy | Subject to MAS retail card restrictions | Do not plan a retail strategy around a credit card |
Advertised free is not a covenant. Fee pages move. Open the schedule inside the signed-in Singapore account before you size a withdrawal. If a FAST out is free, a S$50 test is still worth doing so you know the name-match works.
Send SGD only from a Singapore bank account in the Singpass name. Third-party wallets, spouse accounts and “I will annotate it in the reference” transfers are the usual bounce. The mechanics are the same as every other MPI and are covered in how to deposit SGD into a crypto exchange.
Complete the risk-awareness assessment before the first deposit. OKX will not be the exception to a MAS-wide expectation.
Custody, travel rule, support
OKX SG must safeguard customer assets as an MPI. The Singapore disclosure restates that a licence is not a recovery guarantee and that unregulated affiliate products sit outside MAS supervision. SGD is not a bank deposit. Tokens in a trading wallet are not a hardware wallet.
Travel-rule information is collected on token withdrawals above the threshold. Withdrawals to a new address, and first FAST withdrawals, can wait on a compliance queue. That is a licensee behaving like a licensee. If you need same-hour liquidity, keep SGD at the bank until you are ready to trade, then FAST back out.
Support sits behind the en-sg help centre and the directory phone number. Use those, not a Telegram handle that claims to be “OKX MAS support”. Cloned apps and fake-licence PDFs are a live problem for any large brand.
Who it suits
OKX SG suits a Singapore resident who wants an actual order book, is willing to stay on the spot product, and will fund over PayNow from a local bank. It suits someone comparing maker-taker rates with Crypto.com’s exchange view or Independent Reserve and who will measure the result in Singapore dollars.
It is a poor fit if the reason you want OKX is a perpetual future, a copy-trading room or a credit line. Those are the features MAS has spent the last two years pushing off licensed retail DPT books. They have not become safer because the icon is familiar.
If you came from an overseas OKX account, treat the Singapore MPI as a new relationship: new Singpass KYC, new SGD rails, new pair list, new restrictions. Do not assume balances, order history or product access migrate cleanly. Check the directory, stay on OKX SG, and leave OKX Financial for people who have taken legal advice you are not getting from this page.
Questions readers ask
- Is OKX licensed in Singapore?
- OKX SG Pte. Ltd. is a Major Payment Institution on the MAS Financial Institutions Directory for Digital Payment Token Service. That licence covers the Singapore spot and custody product. It does not cover every screen in the global OKX app.
- Can retail customers use leverage on OKX in Singapore?
- MAS guidelines tell DPT service providers not to offer retail customers credit, leveraged DPT transactions or DPT derivatives. OKX’s own Singapore disclosures say payment-token derivatives are offered by an affiliate, OKX Financial Pte. Ltd., which is not licensed by MAS for DPT service. Treat that affiliate as unregulated.
- Can I deposit SGD with PayNow on OKX SG?
- Yes. OKX Singapore has launched instant SGD deposits via PayNow and FAST withdrawals via DBS, and has advertised those rails as free of OKX fees. Confirm the in-app schedule on the day you use it, and send only from a bank account in your verified name.
- Is the global OKX app the same as OKX SG?
- No. The global catalogue includes products the Singapore MPI must not push at retail. Use the en-sg site, complete Singpass on the Singapore entity, and ignore any screen that names OKX Financial or an overseas book.
