Coinbase in Singapore is a licensed local company with a global interface. That combination is useful if you want Singpass, a PayNow QR and an Advanced order book in one login. It is expensive if you stay on the simple-buy screen and never open the fee schedule.

The licensee is Coinbase Singapore Pte. Ltd., a Major Payment Institution (MPI) for Digital Payment Token (DPT) service and cross-border money transfer. MAS granted the full MPI in 2023 after an in-principle period. This review is a reading of the Singapore product as of 10 October 2026. It is not a recommendation to buy or hold any token.

The company on the directory

Search the Monetary Authority of Singapore Financial Institutions Directory for Coinbase Singapore Pte. Ltd. You want Payments, Major Payment Institution, Digital Payment Token Service, and a Raffles Quay address. The Singapore user agreement states the MPI covers DPT service and cross-border money transfer, and it reprints the statutory risk warning: a licence does not mean you recover everything if the firm or a third party fails. Fiat in a Coinbase wallet is not covered by the Singapore Deposit Insurance Scheme.

Do not onboard through a regional landing page that never names the Pte. Ltd. The licence-check method is the same as for every other brand on this hub.

Coinbase’s Singapore terms also say MAS does not supervise the firm for unregulated services, including any trading of DPT derivatives. If an Advanced screen later offers a futures-like product, treat that as a separate legal question, not as part of the DPT MPI.

Singpass, then the quiz

Retail onboarding is built for Singpass. You approve a Myinfo request; Coinbase receives your legal name, identity number and address from a government source. That name is the one your bank transfer must match. A husband-and-wife joint account, a parent’s POSB or a corporate UEN will not do. New pass holders without Singpass go through a manual passport path and should budget extra time.

After identity comes the MAS risk-awareness assessment. You will not be able to deposit or trade until you pass. The questions cover volatility, the chance of a total loss, operational outages, custody and the weaker recourse you have against an unregulated overseas person. Passing is a gate, not a certificate that the purchase is suitable.

Two-factor authentication should be on before the first PayNow, not after the first phishing SMS. Coinbase accounts are a frequent target for cloned-app and fake-support scams that quote MAS language. The real firm will not ask you to move SGD to a “verification wallet”.

PayNow and FAST, often at S$0

Singapore customers fund SGD with PayNow or FAST. Coinbase’s Singapore site and APAC help pages, as of October 2026, describe those deposits as free of a Coinbase processing fee. That is the cleanest advertised SGD on-ramp among the large brands, alongside Independent Reserve’s free PayNow.

USD SWIFTDeposit / withdrawalIncoming often bank-charged; Coinbase lists a US$25 processing fee on some USD railsMulti-day. The wrong rail for a local retail buy.

PayNow from Grab, Revolut or Wise is a frequent bounce on every MPI. Send from the Singapore bank account in your legal name. The full bounce list lives in how to deposit SGD into a crypto exchange.

A successful FAST or PayNow is also how Coinbase verifies the bank account for later withdrawals. Do the small test deposit first.

Simple buy versus Advanced Trade

This is the decision that determines whether Coinbase is a reasonable SGD venue or an expensive one.

Simple buy is the consumer screen: pick a token, type an SGD amount, see a quoted price, tap. The quote includes spread and fee. On a S$500 to S$2,000 purchase the bundled cost often lands around 1% or more versus a mid-market reference. It is fine for a first S$50 experiment. It is a sloppy way to accumulate.

Advanced Trade is an order book. You get market, limit, stop-limit and, on some pairs, auction-style orders, plus charts. Fees are a published maker-taker schedule that falls with 30-day volume. There is no subscription required to open Advanced; Coinbase One, if it is offered to your account, is a separate paid bundle and should be priced on its own, not assumed.

The practical rule: if you have already paid S$0 to land SGD in the wallet, do not give that saving back on the simple-buy quote. Open Advanced, look at the SGD or USDC pair, and place a limit if the book is thick enough. Compare that fill, once, with the same size on Independent Reserve’s retail book.

Token coverage on the Singapore entity is broad by local standards — Coinbase markets “400+” — but the Singapore list is not the US list. Check the pair on the signed-in Singapore account, not on a VPN’d marketing page.

USDC, XSGD and what they are not

Coinbase has put real work into dollar stablecoins for Singapore. It has offered no-fee SGD purchases of USDC, USDC rewards for holding on-platform, and USDC books on Advanced so you can trade a large set of tokens against USDC rather than against SGD. Circle Internet Singapore Pte. Ltd. is itself a DPT MPI; Circle issues USDC. Coinbase is a distributor and a wallet, not the issuer, and the Singapore terms say Coinbase has no obligation to repurchase your USDC for US dollars.

USDC is a US-dollar token. It does not remove dollar/SGD currency risk. If your salary and your rent are in Singapore dollars, a 1:1 USDC balance can still move in SGD terms when the dollar does.

XSGD — the StraitsX Singapore-dollar token — is listed as a local stablecoin rail. That is a different instrument, with a different issuer group (also MAS-licensed for its own activities). Do not treat USDC and XSGD as interchangeable just because both sit in a Coinbase wallet.

Staking products (ether and others) have been offered to Singapore customers at various times. Staking is not a deposit rate. It has lock-up, slashing and platform-risk characteristics. Read the Singapore terms for that product before you tick the box; MAS’s retail-conduct lens is why some yield screens disappear for non-accredited users.

Custody and leaving

Coinbase is a large custodian with a long public record of how it stores keys. That is not the same as “safe”. The Singapore agreement is clear that you can lose tokens to operational failure, and that MAS supervision of the DPT service does not extend to every adjacent product. SGD in the fiat wallet is safeguarded, not deposit-insured.

Withdraw SGD over FAST to the bank you already verified. Coinbase lists outgoing FAST as free; first withdrawals can sit in review. Withdraw tokens to a self-hosted wallet only after you have priced the network fee and completed travel-rule fields.

Against the rest of the MAS-licensed retail shortlist, Coinbase is the option for people who want a familiar global interface, a S$0 PayNow, and an Advanced book they will actually use. If you will only ever tap simple buy, you will pay for the privilege, and a local book may serve you better.

Questions readers ask

Is Coinbase licensed in Singapore?
Yes. Coinbase Singapore Pte. Ltd. is a Major Payment Institution on the MAS Financial Institutions Directory for Digital Payment Token Service and cross-border money transfer. Confirm the live entry before you send SGD. The global Coinbase.com landing page is not the licence.
Can I deposit SGD to Coinbase with PayNow?
Yes. Singapore customers can deposit over PayNow or FAST. Coinbase’s Singapore marketing and help pages describe those deposits as zero-fee. PayNow requires the transaction reference that is filled when you scan the in-app QR. FAST instructions use an account number unique to you.
What is the difference between Coinbase simple buy and Advanced Trade?
Simple buy is a quoted SGD price with the spread and fee bundled in. Advanced Trade is an order book with published maker-taker rates and proper order types. For anything above a small one-off purchase, open Advanced and compare the all-in SGD cost before you confirm.
Can I buy USDC with SGD on Coinbase Singapore?
Yes. Coinbase has offered no-fee SGD purchases of USDC and USDC order books on Advanced Trade. USDC is a US-dollar stablecoin issued by Circle, not by Coinbase. It is not a Singapore-dollar product; XSGD is the SGD-linked token Coinbase also lists.
Does Coinbase use Singpass?
Yes. Retail onboarding is built around Singpass Myinfo. Your legal name from Singpass is what must match the bank account you PayNow from.
